After completing a residency in family practice at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Steele joined CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service. She completed her training in the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control (DCPC) and later accepted a position in the Cancer Surveillance Branch. After a few years, she joined CDC’s National Center for HIV, Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP). Dr. Steele served as an epidemiologist in the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention and later became the Deputy Director of NCHHSTP’s Office of Health Disparities. She returned to DCPC in 2006 to work in the newly-established Comprehensive Cancer Control Branch. She currently serves on the Scientific Support and Clinical Translation Team. Her interests include health equity, colorectal cancer, lung cancer, and evidence-based public health.
