Dr. Tom Denberg is a practicing internal medicine physician with expertise in health services research, public health, and cancer screening and control. As chief strategy officer and executive vice president of the Carilion Clinic in Virginia, Dr. Denberg was responsible for the development of new value-based service lines, including a neuromuscular institute and a comprehensive breast cancer program. Dr. Denberg completed his residency at The University of Chicago and a fellowship in health services research at the University of California-San Francisco. He earned his MD, with honors, and his PhD in medical anthropology from the University of Illinois. Dr. Denberg was previously a member of the University of Colorado Comprehensive Cancer Center. His many peer-reviewed journal articles include a focus on cancer epidemiology, patient-centered approaches to cancer care, and patterns of oncologic care. As recent chair of the clinical guidelines committee of the American College of Physicians, Dr. Denberg has co-authored several national, cancer-related clinical practice guidelines.
